Fright Night, Cowboys & Aliens, Soldier

Frightnightposter

I didn't expect to enjoy Fright Night very much. I really enjoyed it. One of the best horror films I've seen this year. Just a lot of fun. 3.75/5

Cowboysandaliens

I had heard bad things about Cowboys & Aliens. I didn't think it could be that bad. It's on my list of the worst films of the year. 1.5/5

Soldier

Very early P.T. Anderson film. Soldier is a very simple but very fun movie. There isn't much going on but it has lots of fun doing it. 3.25/5

Open Range, Tombstone, Blade Trinity

Open_range_poster

Beautiful but someone tepid western. The final gun battle is great and the overall film looks amazing on blu-ray. Worth watching if you like westerns. 3.5/5

Tombstone-poster

I never got the love for Tombstone. The acting is crap. Most of the cast feels miscast. The script isn't very good and the directing is rubbish. 2/5

Blade_trinity_poster

It's amazing what time and distance can do for a film. Blade Trinity isn't as bad as I remember it. It's not as good as the first two but it's still fun. 3/5

Unforgiven, Men in Black, The Silence of the Lambs

Unforgiven_poster

I've come to appreciate Unforgiven. It's still not one of my favorite Eastwood films but he gets some great performances out of the actors. 3.5/5

Men_in_black_poster

Men In Black is one of my favorite comic book movies and it looks great on blu-ray. 4/5

The-silence-of-the-lambs-movie

The Silence of the Lambs is in my top 5 favorite films of all time. I had Jonathan Demme as a director and Jodie Foster usually leaves me cold but everything just clicks for me in this film. 5/5

Anatomy of a Murder, Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, Gunless

Anatomy-of-a-murder-2

Anatomy of a Murder is one of my all time favorite courtroom dramas. I believe the chicken lawyer from Futurama is based off of this movie. 5/5

Kiss_kiss_bang_bang_poster

Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is another one of my all time favorite movies. I've watched it many times over the years and it always makes me laugh. I wish Shane Black with direct more. 4.5/5

Gunless-cover

Gunless is an entertaining western comedy from Canada. Yeah, those words look weird together for me too. 3/5

Over the Hedge, True Grit, The Karate Kid

Over-the-hedge

Over the Hedge kicked off my 2011 movie watching efforts. It's a really cute movie but thanks to my daughter, I've seen it way too many times. 3.5/5

True_grit_poster1

I enjoyed True Grit but I didn't love it. It's a solid movie and Hailee Steinfeld gives one of the best performances of the year. 3.75/5

The-karate-kid-poster3001

Boy, I really didn't enjoy The Karate Kid remake. It turns out that watching 12 year-olds beat the hell out of each other isn't as much fun as I thought it would be. 2.75/5

The Losers, Tomb Raider: Cradle of Life, Fistful of Dynamie

Losersposter

I didn't enjoy The Losers as much the second time. A-Team is a better movie. 3/5

New-tombraider2poster-340

Tomb Raider: Cradle of Life is a fun entry into the video game genre. Much better than the first one. 3.25/5

Fistful_of_dynamite_ver2

Fistful of Dynamite is an odd movie. It has the standard middle act which has no relevance to the rest of the film. It looks like it was largely influenced by Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. 3.75/5

Whirlpool, AntiChrist, Boss Nigger

Whirlpool

Very bizarre film noir about a woman who is hypnotized to commit crime. Whirlpool isn't great but it's worth a watch. 3.25/5

Antichristposterart

AntiChrist gets better with each watch. It was in my top 5 favorite films of last year and I like it even more having watched it again. 4/5

Bossnigger

Boss Nigger isn't what you would expect from a 70's studio release. Basically it's the same story as Blazzing Saddles but played straight. Good western. 3.5/5
